Romantic Suspense

The Alliance is a joint undercover operation of M16, the British Secret Intelligence Service and the CIA.  This novel is the latest about one of their members, Ford Decker.  Ford is an adrenaline junkie who lives on the edge.  He befriends a young property manager, Shay Alexander, after he deliberately moves into her building in an attempt to get intel about her cousin, a major security threat.  The Alliance is convinced that her cousin is selling a chemical weapon of mass destruction; of course, Shay knows nothing of this.

Shay is actually a hard working young woman who was raised by her uncle after losing her parents.  She is actually managing her uncle’s property and trying to make her way in the world.  She is powerfully drawn to the mysterious Ford, a handsome man who she knows little about.  Their interpersonal chemistry is through the roof and Ford becomes worried when he begins to care about her.  She was supposed to be a job.

This is an entertaining novel with lots of twists and turns.  It sure made me wonder if there really is such an agency as the Alliance.  Are their operatives as ruthless as Ford tried to be?  Is it possible to be completely clueless about someone’s identity even if you are romantically involved with them?  Can Shay forgive him his betrayal when she learns he is really an undercover agent?  The answers to these questions and more are in this book, a good read for a snowy afternoon.
