Detective Brian Hammond has a son, he is also divorced. He has been a police officer for fifteen years. While on a case, Brian meets Lara, and is instantly attracted to her. He only hopes Lara is just as attracted to him. Getting another case, Brian is a little frustrated, he realizes it's not just a breaking and entering. There is a serial rapist on the loose, stalking women. And his violence is escalating. Can Brian find out who it is, before it's to late?

ONE STEP CLOSER is an action packed romantic suspense. There are so many suspects, that which leads Detective Hammond on a chase, to the very end. You just never know who will pop up on the next page. Ms. Van Heest creates an intriguing, kept me on the edge of my seat story. The characters were complex, and all had their individual issues, that added to the story. Brian and Lara were perfect for each other. I'm anticipating the next installment in this continuing story. This is a must read.
