On Facebook, at school, at Girl Scout Meetings, from my kids, and even all over the TV, I am hearing the word TWILIGHT everywhere!!!! At first, I was not going to investigate, because it is a teen book and I only read adult books. (Yes, that is true book snobbery, there!) I kept that up for a long while, longer than I can believe now. Then, one day, I was in the book section at my favorite "W" mart and saw the book. Thinking "What is the big deal, anyway?" I pick it up and start a quick skim of the first chapter. WOW! I was hooked, but, I still denied myself. After all, I like stories for adults, with those good old adult situations, if you know what I mean. Still, I held off. My son goes to see the movie with his friend, comes home raving - yet, I still hold off. My bestest girlfriend takes her daughter to see the movie and immediately goes out and buys the books. She gushes to me that I have to read it. Okay, so now I give in. I buy the movie cover paperback at the same store I skimmed it at previously. I zipped through this book at amazing speed. It was so well written, not at all what I was expecting from a teen book. Alas, there came a part where I had to set it down. The romance seemed to be pointless. How on earth were they ever going to overcome his bloodthirst to have a relationship? Why couldn't they just get to the sex and bloodletting that I wanted? How was I going to ever finish this book!?!! Oh, the agony! Well, after reading some good old Sherrilyn Kenyon and JR Ward, I dove in again. I finished it rather quickly and handed it off to my son to read - Yes, he knew it was romance, but he was just reading it for the vampires. Scoff, scoff, cough, cough! Yeah, right!!!
So I loved it, I can admit that now. Yes, my teen Girl Scouts and I are discussing this at our next book club meeting this Tuesday. Yes, we are all going to the movies together to see it soon. YES, I am totally into Edward Cullen. I pacify myself by saying it is not perversion, since he is a vamp and well over the legal limit for my lust. Now, if my bratty scouts would hurry and finish NEW MOON, I could read it myself!!!
ARRRGGGHHHH! Where was Edward when I was a teenager!?! Thank you, Stephenie Meyer, for giving me yet another addiction!

Uh Oh! A New Follower. I have yet to read this series but when Whoopi Goldberg discussed it on The View in connection with her purchase of a Kindle, I bought the first book TWILIGHT. It is however a paranormal and I have not read many. I do however ready young adult books from time to time so I foresee reading TWILIGHT sometime soon if only to see what the excitement is all about.
Livia
I do not hink it is the typical paranormal, Livia. Not like you and I typically read, at any rate. I was shocked at how good it is and how easy it is to read. You will like it.
So, did you get a Kindle? Hmmmm....
Thia, I read young adult books all the time, YA fantasy.
I'm not a big vampire fan, but I think if I can find a copy in the ubs, I'm going to have to get TWILIGHT. Edward sounds wonderful!
Hugs, Deb
Oh my Thia, I have it just as bad as you! I LOVED Twilight and I raced through New Moon. Unfortunately, I have to wait until Christmas for Eclipse! This series is really well written. I was surprised I liked it so much because I am NOT a vampire person but this book is so much more---and I love the Cullen family. It's a definite must read!

There is so much hype about this movie. I thought it was just a young adult book or movie. Being a Kenyon, Feehan, and Ward fan. I must admit, I want to read this book and to see how they compare. I heard this morning, they already have a director for the new movie. My grown daughter bought the hard cover set of these books from Costco. Now I must read the first one.
Well, I have yet to read a vampire book. However, my daughter LOVED this series and has every book. I love young adult but vampires is one border that I can not cross!

As a child who adored reading, I have despaired that there are way too many kids in the world who just don't get into this activity. I suspect that the TWILIGHT popularity will stimulate some reading. I guess the bottom line for me is that I don't care what the topic is, as long as it gets an adolescent reading a book, it is GOOD! Vampires? Not exactly my favorite but heck it's literature! geri
I have yet to "bite" on this particular series and doubt that I will. A few co-workers are hooked and read the entire series in two weeks. It is very interesting to see how many people are now enthralled by the whole vampire/paranormal theme. I wonder why?

I can hardly wait to read Twilight...gotta go borrow it from my reading buddy!
Lori
Moni,
I was hesitant to read it, because I like the adult aspect of my romances. However, the angst just makes it that much sweeter. They are good, not childish, and fun. Then again, I am a huge paranormal fan, so I am biased.
Lori - book delivered. Now read it!!
Thia,
The sheer size of the book is enough to steer me away. Yes, I know what everyone will probably say, but still - it is too big! Actually, it reminds me of college lugging those huge books back and forth to class.
Monica
Monica,
I know what you are talking about! The series written by Diana Gabaldon did it to me too. My kids were always trying to get me to read the Harry Potter books (huge) and I just asked them, "can't I just watch the movie?'
Charlene
My sister loved this book! :) Kathy
Ah, the size is deceiving. I bought the mass market paper back and it was not near as daunting as the original. No bigger than most we read.
I have one question: did anyone see the movie? And does it coincide closely with the book?
Charlene
Thia! My daughter is big into all the books, too. And got her cousins hooked on them :)
I still haven't read them - it's just the whole "teen love" thing keeping me away,,, but I'm sure one day I'll cave.
:) (((HUGS)))
