Why am I complaining.....

So, why exactly am I complaining again? After all, I am in a nice air conditioned house, on vacation, in the Florida Keys. The sun has shown brightly and beautifully each day. I feel at ease here, like the Mother goddess is filling me full of love and joy with this time in her paradise. Even with all that, I am still slightly ill. I love to read on vacation and just like everytime, I bring about eight books or so. How many have I read you ask? One and I am not even finished with that! I drove down here myself, a thirteen hour drive with my two pre-teens. (Don't get me started!!) Then, when I do get the chance to read, I am either so distracted or tired, that I cannot get through one whole paragraph, much less chapter. Arrrgghhhh!!! I just want to kick back and read. With that being said, let me go on further to say that while I am complaining, I have had a super-fabulous time and even though I would like to kick back and read, it is all good. How could it not be? I am in paradise!

Epilogues? Love or hate them?

Epilogues? We have been discussing SEALED WITH A KISS for the month of May over at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GrabABook. And the question was asked about the ending and I realized, I'm a reader who loves, LOVES epilogues. I knew this before, but I think it really hit home with this particular book.I enjoyed the book. It was good. But I wanted an epilogue to let me know how things were going mths or a year down the road. I actually look at the back of books to see if they have them. Do you like epilogues? Does it matter? What's your favorite time frame for an epilogue to occur?

What are your thoughts on Epilogues? Do you feel books need them, some, most, none?

Darth Vader and reading in bed

Everyone has their favorite place to read.

Mine is my bed. How can you give up nearly fifty years of habit?! Early in life, my bedroom was the place to go to escape my turbulent family life, and the bed was the main piece of furniture in it. Then for twenty-nine years and two children and assorted pets including dh, I lived in a small one-floor house where the only place to go to read in peace was the bed, late at night.

Now I have a lovely room in a much larger house that's all mine, complete with my idea of heaven--orange walls, room for _lots_ of books, a comfy sofa, and a bright lamp beside it. The only thing is--

I want to read in bed! The only problem, that's where dh's toy, the big-screen plasma tv with Surround Sound system is. Last night I finished up the ARC of Julie Kenner's July release, DEJA DEMON (yes, the fourth in her Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom series--this one's fantastic!)
to all the lovely sounds of the original 'Star Wars.' Darth Vader's heavy and ominous breathing seemed appropriate as background noise to demon fighting and Saving The World From Evil. Darth Vader's famous theme will forever be intertwined in my mind with Kate Connor and family.

Tonight I'm reading the first in a new cozy mystery series set in the Edwardian period, HIGH MARKS FOR MURDER by Rebecca Kent aka Doreen Roberts Hight. I'm happily ready to hit the sheets. Dh informs me that he's watching the new Rambo movie...oh, dear!

Ebooks vs print books

I recently read an ebook, a Christian romance and loved it. However I still find that reading ebooks is a hassle for me. I don't have an ebook reader, I only have my laptop. While it's better than the desktop for mobility it still limits me and is heavy and gets hot after a while.LOL So I still find that I prefer print versions. Something about holding a book, the weight, the smell, the feel of it in my hands. And the convenience. If I have to stop or leave the house or whatever I can put a bookmarker in my place and easily find it again. With ebooks I feel I have to read them all at once. I find it's harder to find my place when I stop and I find I don't like having to reread pages before I find where I was.
